effects of simultaneous formaldehyde vapor and noise exposure on pituitary-gonadal axis in adult male mice
Authors
abstract
background: formaldehyde (h2c = o), is a member of aldehyde family with a simplest organic molecule, used in various industries. the aim of this experimental study was to investigate the effects of simultaneous formaldehyde and noise exposure on hormonal pituitary-gonadal axis in adult male mice. methods: 46 adult male mice were randomly assigned to one control group and three experimental groups which were exposed to formaldehyde vapor (10 ppm) (f), noise (100 db) (n), and simultaneous formaldehyde with noise (nf), respectively for 10 days (8 hours a day). at the end of the experiment half of the mice of each group were sacrificed 24 hours after exposure (short-term effects) and the rest were sacrificed 35 days after the end of exposure (long-term effects). plasma concentrations of testosterone, lh, fsh were measured using the elisa method. results: in short-term analysis, the serum testosterone in groups n, f, and nf were 2.73±0.24, 2.58±0.16, and 2.03±0.22,(ng/ml)respectively which had a significant decrease (p<0.001)compared to control group(3.82±0.35). the lh level in groups f, and nf also showed significant reduction compared to control group (p<0.05 and p<0.001). conclusion: reduction of serum testosterone and lh level may be potentiated by noise (700-5700 hz) in the simultaneous exposure to formaldehyde and noise.

P-59: Investigation of Simultaneous Exposure to Noise and Formaldehyde Vapor on Mouse Reproductive Function
Background: Formaldehyde (FA) is a member of aldehyde family with a simplest organic molecule, used in various industries. Since there is simultaneous exposure of formaldehyde and noise for workers in most of the workplaces and that noise can reinforce the harmful effects of some chemical pollutants. This study aimed to investigate the effects of simultaneous formaldehyde and noise exposure on ...
full textEffect of Camphor on Pituitary-Gonadal Hormonal Axis and Oogenesis in Adult Female Rats
Background & Objective: Camphor stimulates the nervous system and the circulatory system, reduces lactation, and prevents conception and embryo embedding. We investigated the effects of camphor on the pituitary-gonadal hormonal axis and concentration of steroidal hormones. Materials & Methods: The parameters investigated were concentrations of LH, FSH, estrogen, progesterone, and testosterone...
full texteffects of simultaneous exposure to formaldehyde vapor and noise on mouse testicular tissue and sperm parameters
conclusions exposure to formaldehyde vapor can destroy testicular structure and decrease percentages of sperm count and progressive motility. the present study indicated that a reduction in the percentage of progressive motile sperm may be potentiated by noise (700-5700 hz) in the simultaneous exposure to formaldehyde and noise group. thus, it can be anticipated that simultaneous exposure to fo...
full textThe effect of 17 days exposure to static magnetic fields on the hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal axis in the male rat
Power stations produce a range of magnetic fields more than 20 mT which are harmful to those working or living around them. Several investigators have reported an increased health risk due to exposure to electric and magnetic fields (EMF) at 50 and 60 Hz. Several studies have been reported especially with increased tumor incidence, effects on reproduction and development, and neural and behavio...

full textChanges in the Hypothalamic-Pituitary-Gonadal Axis in Adult Male Rats Poisoned with Proteus and Biscaya Insecticides
Background: Insecticides may have negative effects on reproductive organs. Given the interaction between leptin and the hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal (HPG) axis, we sought to investigate the changes in leptin and the HPG axis in adult male rats poisoned with Proteus and Biscaya insecticides. Methods: Our experimental subjects were 110 adult male Wistar rats (80–90 days of age; average weight=2...
